Ketterer has developed a universally deployable drive unit with a telescopic spindle, especially for the sort of application areas mentioned above. Thanks to the unique design with a stable carrier tube, the unit can be installed without any additional construction measures being necessary. With a spindle pitch of 10 mm the design is optimised for maximum travel at maximum power and in the smallest space. The telescopic spindle is designed such that initially only the inner spindle is deployed until it reaches its end stop. After this, it acts as the guide for the outer, large spindle to start its travel. This gives a combination of maximum travel with minimum space requirements. A position measuring system included as standard in the drive motor completes the unit in terms of its modularity.

As well as design and functionality, issues concerning available space play an increasingly important role in modern bathrooms. Particularly in small bathrooms, the additional space won through the deployment of sliding shower screen doors, can offer many advantages.

Ketterer has developed a special transmission unit for just this application. Two space-saving, maintenance-free motorised transmissions are integrated in a guide track. This allows the position of the glass screen to be adjusted simply and quietly. The guide track is bent slightly forwards. This guarantees that the glass screen forms a secure closure with the floor when the screen is in its end position. If the shower screen meets any resistance as it is travelling to the required position, an integrated safety mechanism ensures that there is no danger of injury and that the glass screen is not damaged.

Gone are the days when furniture was simply viewed as a home furnishing, because some modern furniture is extremely technically sophisticated. We are seeing more and more functional furniture on the market, even in the bed industry. Today for example, individually adjustable slatted bed bases offer increased levels of sleep comfort.

Ketterer has developed a space-saving, quiet, special gear mechanism especially for electrically adjustable slatted bed bases, which can fit into the smallest space. This motor/gear unit and modified spindle, allow continuous variable adjustment of the head and foot sections, independently of one another. There is no need for a distance measuring system thanks to the use of a simplified control function. Two limit stops and two sensors recognise automatically when the bed adjustment has nearly reached the end of its travel. Then, the slatted bed base can only be adjusted in the opposite direction. The drive unit is designed for a very high holding torque. Various gear reductions and spindle combinations allow the drives to be adapted ideally to the requirements of the situation.

This motor/gear unit can be used wherever high levels of holding torque are called for.

Sit-stand workplaces are becoming ever more common. Today they are standard furnishings in offices and workplaces and are indispensable in an ergonomically designed working environment.

Ketterer has redesigned a drive unit from its range of standard drives to develop an innovative customer-oriented solution that combines both design and functionality. Two opposing shafts are turned by a Ketterer bevel gear powered by one central drive unit. These adjust the height of two connected table legs via a scissors-shaped lever mechanism. The direct coupling of the two shafts means that no intricate synchronization is required. One of the table-leg pairs is fitted with rollers so that it can adjust to the altered angle of the scissors mechanism when the height changes. The adjustment can also be performed manually via a special interface with the use of a hand crank. Once the desired height has been reached it is fixed securely by a brake integrated into the drive.

Ketterer has developed a special motor-drive unit in order to move them selectively and precisely. The units are located at each end of a large-scale blind. They actuate a specially designed shaft with a very high pitch with which the slat can be moved into any position desired. Both motors are electronically coupled so that they move synchronously. For friction welding, at least one of the jointing components must have a rotation-symmetric shape at the joint. The energy comes solely from the relative motion of the jointing components under pressure. One component remains still and the other is made to rotate. The two components are thus joined together with the application of force but without any additional materials. One major advantage of this method is the avoidance of a molten stage in making the join, allowing the joining of very different combinations of materials.

Ketterer has developed a small, space-saving special drive for this industry capable of executing a variety of movements powerfully, securely and quietly. At its heart are a motor-gear combination with matching spindle and an integrated position sensor. Armrests, seat height, angle of inclination and so on – these and other parameters can all be adjusted using only one drive type. It can be adjusted to suit ideally the respective application using different gear reductions and spindle combi-nations. A so-called “fork head”, which allows easy assembly and guarantees secure functioning, forms the standardized interface to the furniture.

Automation and process monitoring, well established and often-used terms in industry, are becoming more important in the field of modern agriculture. In modern stalls for animal husbandry a range of parameters must be monitored and occasionally automatically adjusted.

For example, the supply of fresh air is regulated by ventilation flaps that are opened or closed automatically; Ketterer has designed a special drive for this purpose. It is mounted onto the flap and can be moved automatically into the position desired by means of a specially designed worm gear. An integrated position sensor gives the required position data. The modular construction of the gear means that the drive can be adjusted to fit any size of flap and to attain the closing speed required.
